Hey, it's Geb from Email Rev Lab!

At 10:35 PM last night, I put my email into Optimum Nutrition's pop-up.

It promised 15% off my first order.

It's now 11:20 PM. No email. No discount code. Nothing.

The Brand Bridge:

Optimum Nutrition was founded in 1986 by brothers Tony and Michael Costello. Forty years of building the world's #1 sports nutrition brand. Billions of workouts powered across 100+ countries.

But forty years of brand equity doesn't matter if a new buyer signs up at 10:35 PM and gets silence for 45 minutes.

By the time that email lands, half of them have already closed the tab.

The Pop-up Test:

The pop-up design is clean. Black button, simple copy, no fluff.

But there's one issue. It just says, "Sign up for our newsletter." No urgency. No "get your code instantly." No delivery expectation set.

The 15% off is mentioned at the bottom in small text. It should be the headline.

The Tech Test:

This is the real bottleneck. A 45-minute (and counting) welcome email delay is critical.

In Klaviyo, this usually means one of three things: the pop-up isn't connected to the welcome flow, the flow has a time-delay set before the first email, or the form integration is broken.

For a brand this size, this is likely a configuration error, not a tech failure.

The Inbox Test:

I haven't received the email yet. So I can't report on tab placement or subject line.

But if the email goes to Promotions with a 45-minute delay, you've already lost the window where buyer intent is hottest.

The Fix (Klaviyo):

  1. Open the welcome flow in Klaviyo. Check the trigger. Make sure it's set to "List > [your newsletter list] > Subscribes" and not a segment that requires processing time.

  2. Check the first email in the flow. The time delay before it should be set to "immediately" or 0 minutes.

  3. Add one line of copy above the email field in the pop-up: "Get your 15% code instantly."

That's it. One day of work. Conversion rate on pop-up signups goes up within 24 hours.

The Impact Statement:

Most supplement brands lose 40% of their pop-up signups to delayed welcome emails. The buyer was warm when they typed in their email. They're cold 45 minutes later.

The Curiosity Hook:

Here's what I'm curious about: what's ON's current welcome series open rate? Because if the delivery is this delayed, the first open stat is probably masking the real drop-off.

The Pitch:

Optimum Nutrition has been setting the Gold Standard since 1986. Their product earns the trust. Their email infrastructure just needs to match it.

I send these audits daily because bottlenecks like this can be fixed in one day with the right information.

Want me to audit your Klaviyo account the same way?

Reply to this email, and I'll send you a free breakdown of where your welcome series is leaking revenue.
