Hey, it's Geb from Email Rev Lab!

At 2:06 PM today, I scrolled all the way to the bottom of Ritual's homepage to find their email opt-in.

No pop-up. No offer. No incentive. Just a plain "Enter your email" field sitting quietly in the footer.

I subscribed anyway.

It's now 3:00 PM.

Fifty-four minutes. Not a single email.

That's the welcome flow for one of the most transparent supplement brands in the world.

The Brand:

Katerina Schneider founded Ritual in 2016 because she was pregnant and couldn't find a prenatal vitamin she trusted. She built the whole brand around one idea: traceability. Every ingredient is sourced and verified. The supply chain is visible. The clinical studies are public. In 2024, Ritual pulled in $250 million in gross revenue and holds the #1 prenatal spot in the US.

They literally trademarked the phrase "Clean isn't enough. We're traceable."

But their welcome email? Untraceable.

The Pop-up Test:

There isn't one.

Ritual's entire homepage has no pop-up opt-in. No exit intent. No scroll trigger. No timed offer.

The only way to subscribe is to scroll past the hero banner, past bestsellers, past the scientific advisory board, past Serena Williams, all the way to the footer.

That's not a conversion strategy. That's a scavenger hunt.

The industry average pop-up conversion rate is 2.1% (Omnisend). Ritual is capturing zero of that because the form doesn't exist where buyers actually are.

The Tech Test:

Signed up at 2:06 PM. Checked at 3:00 PM. Nothing.

A 54-minute (and counting) delay on a welcome email is a conversion killer.

Real-time welcome emails convert at 4.01%. Delayed ones drop to 0.94%. That's a 327% performance gap from one Klaviyo setting being wrong (Invesp).

And 74% of subscribers expect a welcome email the moment they sign up (Invesp). Fifty-four minutes later, that window is gone.

The Inbox Test:

Can't test it. The email never arrived.

But based on the footer form setup, there's no visible incentive, no confirmation redirect, and no expectation-setting after signup. The only confirmation is a quiet "Thanks for subscribing!" message where the form used to be.

No subject line preview. No "check your inbox." No brand moment.

The Email Creative Test:

Nothing to review. Still waiting.

What I can say: a brand that leads with transparency in its product has an opportunity to lead with transparency in its emails, too. Tell me what's coming. Tell me how often. Show me the ingredient sourcing story in email one.

Instead, silence.

The Fix (Klaviyo, 3 Steps):

1. Turn on real-time send in your welcome flow trigger. In Klaviyo, go to your welcome flow. Click the trigger. Make sure "Added to List" is set to send immediately with zero time delay. This alone closes the 327% conversion gap.

2. Add a pop-up with a lead magnet. Use Klaviyo's built-in form builder. A 10% discount or a "Why most vitamins don't work" PDF is enough. Place it as an exit-intent or timed trigger at 20 seconds. Aim for the 2.1% industry benchmark from day one.

3. Write a 3-email welcome sequence. Email 1: Deliver the offer and tell the subscriber what to expect. Email 2: Tell Katerina's founding story. The pregnancy. The research. The frustration. Email 3: Introduce the traceability promise. Link to an ingredient source.

The Impact Statement:

Most supplement brands don't know this: a delayed welcome email converts at 0.94%, while a real-time one converts at 4.01%. That's a 327% gap sitting inside one Klaviyo setting (Invesp).

The Curiosity Hook:

Here's what I'm curious about: if Ritual's product is this obsessively transparent, what would happen to their email revenue if their Klaviyo flows matched that same standard?

The Pitch:

Ritual built a $250 million brand on the idea that consumers deserve to know exactly what they're getting. Their Klaviyo account deserves the same treatment.

I send these audits daily because bottlenecks like this can be fixed in one day with the right information.

Want me to audit your Klaviyo account the same way?

Reply to this email, and I'll send you a free breakdown of where your welcome series is leaking revenue.
