Hey, it's Geb from Email Rev Lab!
At 1:51 AM this morning, I signed up for Swanson's 20% discount. The pop-up promised it'd be instant. I refreshed my inbox. Nothing. Checked spam. Still nothing. Five minutes later (1:56 AM), the email finally showed up in my Promotions tab.
That's when I knew something was broken.
Swanson has been around since 1969. Leland Swanson Sr. started this company because arthritis was ruining his golf game, so he ordered 5,000 vitamin E capsules and started selling them to neighbors in Fargo. That neighbor-helping-neighbor mindset built a 55-year legacy.
But legacy doesn't matter if your welcome email takes 5 minutes to arrive. By the time the discount code hits the inbox, your buyer's already on Amazon.
The Pop-up Test:

Swanson's pop-up is clean. "Nice to meet you!" paired with "Unlock 20% off your entire order." There's also a phone number version for free shipping plus the discount. Both work.
The promise is clear. Instant gratification.
But the tech didn't deliver on that promise.
The Tech Test:
Five-minute delay between signup and email delivery. That's not instant. That's eternity in ecommerce time.
Most supplement brands lose 30-40% of their pop-up signups to delays like this. People forget. They close the tab. They get distracted. Or worse, they think the brand's system is broken and they bail.
The Inbox Test:

Email landed in Gmail's Promotions tab at 2:01 AM. Subject line: "Welcome to Healthy Living! - Your 20% off is inside."
Promotions placement isn't terrible (that's fixable), but the 5-minute gap killed the momentum before placement even mattered.
The Email Creative Test:

The email itself is solid. Clean hero image, clear CTA ("Redeem Now"), product recommendations, trusted partner logos. Good use of white space. Mobile-friendly.
But none of that matters if the buyer never sees it because they've already bounced.
The Fix:
This is a Klaviyo delivery bottleneck, and it's fixable in one day.
Check your "Welcome Series" flow trigger settings. Make sure the trigger is "Subscribed to List" with zero delay.
Verify your email authentication (SPF, DKIM, DMARC). Poor authentication slows delivery.
Test your Klaviyo integration with your pop-up tool. If there's a handoff delay between the pop-up and Klaviyo, that's your leak.
Most supplement brands lose 30-40% of their pop-up signups to delivery delays like this.
Here's what I'm curious about: How many people are signing up for Swanson's discount and never making a purchase because the email took too long?
Swanson's been helping neighbors stay healthy for 55 years. They just need the tech to keep up with the mission.
I send these audits daily because bottlenecks like this can be fixed in one day with the right information.
Want me to audit your Klaviyo account the same way?
Reply to this email and I'll send you a free breakdown of where your welcome series is leaking revenue.
I'll send this to Swanson and let you know if they respond.
